The amount of time between both of these fights relative to the first chapter of Naruto is insane. The Naruto vs. Pain chapter was released in 2009; 10 years after the first chapter of Naruto. Boruto is currently working on 6 years and we aren't even at the time skip yet.
Edit: I just remembered that Episode 447, from the Jiraiya Scrolls arc, has a Pain vs 6-tailed Naruto variant that follows the manga more closely. This is from around 18:20 to the end of the episode. However, the animation is nowhere near as smooth as it was in 167.
